The Department for Natural Resources has established a toll free telephone number, which is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week to facilitate the reporting of a mine emergency.
KRS 352.180 requires that the Office of Mine Safety and Licensing be notified within fifteen (15) minutes of having actual knowledge of any of the following occurrences and access to the communication system:
- A death of an individual at a mine
- Serious physical injury to an individual at a mine which has a reasonable potential to cause death
- An entrapment of an individual for more than thirty (30) minutes
- An inundation of a mine by water
- An inundation of a mine by gases
- A mine fire
- An explosion
- Other serious accident
